A food desert is an area where access to healthy food is limited by proximity and finances. The populations in theses areas have higher rates of modifiable disease like obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
What is food equity?
Food equity is the concept that everyone should be able to grow or have access to healthy, nutrient-dense, affordable, and culturally appropriate foods.
What is food justice?
Similar to food equity, food justice is the value that every human has the right to nutritious, affordable food. Activists for food justice promote the fair distribution of healthy, nutrient dense food.
You can’t effect change until you become aware of the need for it.
